ELANNI PUBLISHING is always seeking local supporters of this exciting and worthwhile program in cities across the country. What grade does a student have to be in to be included in the publication?
The Outstanding African-American Students™ Awards Program honors students from grades one through twelve. It does not include kindergarten or pre-school students.
How can I obtain a Nomination Form?
The Official Nomination Form for the Outstanding African-American Students™ Awards Program will be available on www.topblackstudents.org starting February 1st of each year. The person seeking to nominate a student for the award will have to complete the following steps:
Download a Parent Publicity Release Agreement and have it signed
by the parent or guardian of the student being nominated; and
Complete and online Official Nomination Form citing the accomplishments
and activities of each student being nominated; and
Scan a photograph of the student and
the signed copy of the Parent Child Publicity Release Agreement
and upload them into the section designated on the online Official Nomination Form
All Nomination Forms must be submitted electronically.

Who can nominate me for the publication?
Completed nomination forms for the Outstanding African-American Students™ Awards Program must be submitted by a youth organization sponsor, a civic, church or community leader or by a school principal, teacher, counselor or other school official. Self-nominations and/or parent nominations are not accepted. The person who nominates each student must include their name, contact number and email address on the Official Nomination Form in order that submitted information can be verified or incomplete information may be obtained.
Will the information submitted on my nomination form be treated confidentially?
All personal information submitted on any nomination form for the Outstanding African-American Students™ Awards Program will be treated with utmost confidence. No information regarding any student will be disseminated to any other business or organization without the written authorization of the student or parent. Home addresses and telephone numbers will not be included in the publication.
What type of photograph should be provided with the Nomination Form?
Each Nomination Form should be accompanied by a head-and-shoulders photograph of the student being nominated. The photograph should have at least a minimum of 300 dpi resolution. The Nomination Form will ONLY accept the following image types:
pdf, zip, jpg, jpeg, png, gif, tif, tiff, psd
Does a nomination guarantee that I will be included in the publication?
The Outstanding African-American Students™ Awards Program seeks to recognize the accomplishments of those African-American students who have "excelled" in various capacities. Each submitted nomination form will be evaluated according to this standard. There is no guarantee that any student will be included in the publication.
What is the deadline for nominations?
The postmark deadline for nominations for each annual edition of Outstanding African-American Students™ will be provided in the Official Nomination Form.
The deadline is usually set as March 15th of each year.
How many students can be nominated from each school or organization?
There is no limit on the number of students from any school or organization who can be nominated for the Outstanding African-American Students™ Awards Program. Therefore, each school or organization can freely nominate more than one student or member.
If I have been previously included in the publication, can I be included again?
There is no limit on the number of times a particular student can be included in the Outstanding African-American Students™ publication. Many students who have been featured in the publication have been included in multiple editions.
How are nominations evaluated?
All nominations submitted for Outstanding African-American Students™ are reviewed and evaluated by the local sponsoring organization in each city. Those organizations rely on the recommendations of those persons who work closely with the nominated student on a day-to-day basis. Each submitted nomination form will be thoroughly evaluated to determine if the student accomplishments are worthy of recognition.
How will a student and his or her parents be informed if he or she will be featured in the publication?
An Award Letter announcing the selection of each student to be included in the Outstanding African-American Students™ publication will be sent to his or her parents. If applicable, the Award Letter will also include information on the time and place for the Local Awards Ceremony which is usually held in August of each year.
If a student is selected to be included in the publication, is there any type of purchase requirement?
It is not required to purchase a copy of Outstanding African-American Students™ in order to be featured in the publication. Information on how to order copies of the publication will be furnished to parents and students who may desire a personal copy. Book orders are mailed in August of each year.
